New CD-ROM for Student Success Lands Industry Awards

Researched-based Learning & Studying CD-ROM BrainCogs™ Receives Multiple Honors

Boston, MA - Children's media and publishing company, FableVision Studios, has learned that its newest educational program, BrainCogs™, has won two prestigious industry awards within days of each other. The two awards, Media & Methods Awards Portfolio and District Administrator's District's Choice Award, add to the praise that this innovative CD-ROM software has already garnered around the country. Bob Chase, the president of the National Educational Association (NEA), praised BrainCogs, stating, "BrainCogs coaches all students to learn, study and ultimately to navigate their own potential. It is a powerful tool to help realize our goal of helping all children succeed."

Media and Methods Magazine's Portfolio Awards 2002 is an annual event, which honors outstanding companies and their products in the educational marketplace. Judges choose their winner from hundreds of entries based on the product's versatility, comprehensiveness, ease-of-use, ability to motivate, and innovativeness. Michele Sokoloff, publisher of Media and Methods Magazine, states, "All of us at Media & Methods applaud and acknowledge the commitment to developing quality educational materials and tools demonstrated by these winning companies and their products. The sheer number of entries for the 2002 Awards Portfolio is much more than the previous year, which make the results much more competitive and significant."

The second of the two awards, The District's Choice Award, is designed to honor superior products and services in public education. "This is a huge honor for our team," shares Peter Reynolds, founder and president of FableVision. He adds, "BrainCogs being named as one of the best educational products of 2002 validates our belief that the work of the Research Institute for Learning and Development is a significant step toward helping all students achieve their personal best." FableVision's VP Gary Goldberger concurs, "FableVision's mission is to help each learner by tapping into his or her own learning styles - being recognized for the mission is additional inspiration for both teams."

Based on over a decade of research and clinical work by Dr. Lynn Meltzer, Dr. Bethany Roditi at The Research Institute for Learning and Development (Research ILD) in Lexington, Massachusetts, FableVision designed, produced and published the BrainCogs CD-ROM. "The CD-ROM allows our approach to reach more children and educators who desperately need help --especially as they face the pressures of high-stakes testing," say Dr. Meltzer. The FableVision-ResearchILD collaboration is continuing as the organizations have teamed up once again to produce a companion CD-ROM that deals with the challenges of successful essay writing. The new product will be completed by fall 2002.

The PC/Mac CD-ROM, containing ten hours of animation and activities, helps students develop a personalized plan to enhance the five cognitive processes (a.k.a. "brain cogs") involved in preparing for and taking quizzes and tests. Thirteen strategies are presented giving students ways to support those "cogs" and results in a personalized plan highlighting those that work best for each student.

Led by Peter Reynolds, FableVision Studios (http://www.fablevision.com) leverages multiple media platforms including animation, books, CD-ROM, and web to create "stories that matter, stories that move" for children, adults and families, museums, publishers and broadcasters. The company continues to build an award-winning reputation among the educational, publishing and cross-media landscape.
