FableVision Educational Publishing Stories & Fun Client Services About Our Studio

Client: Scholastic

FableVision has worked with Scholastic on many projects through the years. We have created animated films for Weston Woods division, and interactive websites for Scholastic Entertainment. Here are some of our projects for Scholstic:

Project: The Dot (Animated Film)

Challenge/Solution:
When Weston Woods producer Paul Gagne decided to produce an animated film from Peter H. Reynolds' acclaimed picture book The Dot, he knew the perfect company to produce it would be Peter's own FableVision studios.

The creative team of John Lechner, Gary Goldberger, Jonathan Meath and Noah Jones produced a beautiful adaptation, which is sure to take its place among the classic children's films of our time. Spirited narration was provided by actress Thora Birch. The Dot is truly one of the "stories that matter, stories that move" in the FableVision tradition, and the book and film will surely inspire generations of creative thinkers for years to come. Project: Clifford the Big Red Dog Website

Challenge:
With the launch of Clifford The Big Red Dog as an animated PBS series, Scholastic Entertainment's online producing duo Gail Berrigan and Susan Donaldson were charged with creating two websites for this cross-media venture - one for PBS, and the other for Scholastic. The mission was to create two sites that were friendly, fun and easy to use for a very young audience, in essence, crafting a child's "first website."

FableVision's team included Peter Reynolds and David Samuelson, as well as the design and programming genius of John Lechner, Dave Tilton and Shivika Asthana. Some of the games that FableVision designed for Clifford over the years include "Pet Clifford", "Clifford's Xylobone" and "Cleo's Groovy Grooming Shop."

Project: Antarctic Antics

Challenge/Solution:
Weston Woods, a division of Scholastic, came to FableVision to animate Antarctic Antics, the book written by Judy Sierra and illustrated by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey. This book of penguin poems was turned into a musical feast for the eyes and ears, with songs written and performed by the musical group The Mavericks. Under the direction of Gary Goldberger and Peter Reynolds, FableVision's team of animators led by Matt Ducharme brought this colorful and engaging book of poems to life.

Antarctic Antics was awarded the 2001 American Library Association's Andrew Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's Video

Project: Pete's A Pizza

Challenge/Solution:
FableVision and Weston Woods were faced with a daunting task — to bring the classic illustrations of legendary author/illustrator William Steig to life, in a film version of his book Pete's A Pizza.

Using the USAnimation system, FableVision's Creative Director Noah Jones animated this delightful production, which used narration by Chevy Chase. The gentle story, of a father who amuses his child on a rainy day by making him into a make-believe pizza, is faithfully translated from page to screen, with vibrant colors and music to match.
