The Power
of Expression
The ability to write clearly and concisely is one of today’s
great challenges for students. How can we empower students to express
themselves and respond to essays in clear, well thought out paragraphs,
on tests and in general? How do we help students understand the meaning
of the key words in an essay question, to support an answer with specific
information, to write both a topic sentence and concluding sentence,
to organize information so that it aligns with the topic? And how does
a student review an essay after it’s written? You will be presented
with a variety of resources and great ideas to use in your classroom,
including FableVision’s latest product, Essay Express™.
We’ve taken the complex and abstract elements of essay writing
and broken them down into concrete components that all students can
master.
Tilting
the Balance in a Balanced Reading Program
Since One Size Never Fits All with Sally Grimes
Learn
how to use information about individual learners to “tilt the
balance” in a balanced reading program while using research based
methods that address the five components of reading: phonemic awareness,
phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Certain children
need more hands on activities, explicit teaching and scaffolding than
other children need. This workshop will provide the “nuts and
bolts” of current Reading First (NCLB) information while also
providing motivating and exciting classroom applications. Click
here for more detailed workshop information and outline.
