Workshop Description	Discover the North Star Approach to Teaching and Learning as you consider your own life-long journey of learning, and the path you’re on (or off). Explore real, pencils-down applications of the Theory of Multiple Intelligences and strategies for differentiation. Inspire yourself to create, out of the elements of your classroom, a one-size-fits-few environment of imagination, discovery, and sharing. Based on Peter H. Reynolds' book, The North Star, this exciting workshop promises to bring the child front and center, and to celebrate what great teaching really is.
Designed for:	All the parents and teachers of the world and those who are brave enough to follow their dreams. Classroom Teachers, tech coordinators, computer teachers, staff development professionals, library/media specialists, administrators, pre-service teachers and educators
Duration	Six hours, includes an hour for lunch.
Educators will...	Explore the idea that each of us owns a unique set of strengths, perferences, intelligences, and experiences. Delineate current education theories and ideas, including the theory of multiple intelligences, and discuss their place in learning and development. Examine the relationship between school climate and achievement. Discover strategies for assessing student interests and abilities, and for differentiating instruction to provide mutltiple paths to success that accommodate them. Amplify the relevance of technology in the classroom. Celebrate the significance of great teaching. Become connected to the North Star Community of parents, educators, kids, and thinkers, who all seek to improve classroom instruction so that it uses strengths to build weaknesses.
Aligned with: The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards	Teachers are committed to students and their learning. Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students. Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. Teachers think systematically about their practice and learn from experience. Teachers are members of learning communities.
Workshop Strands	This workshop will be divided into three strands during the day dealing with Imagination, Discovery, and Sharing.
Imagination:	Discuss the role that varying learning styles and intelligences play in instruction and school climate.
Discovery:	Discover The North Star and the North Star approach to teaching and learning, which celebrate multiple paths to success and uses strengths to build weaknesses.
Sharing:	Work to differentiate and individualize upcoming classroom lessons and activities to address individual student needs.

Certificates for Professional Development	Certificates of completion will be handed out at the end of the session. Those requiring additional hours can make indivdual arrangments with the presenter.
