Description |
How
do students learn? Why is learning so different for everyone? And
how do educators create and provide a learning environment that
will reach every child? Learn proven, research-based teaching techniques
that help your students develop and use effective learning, studying,
and test-taking strategies. We will introduce you to BrainCogs®,
a software-based cognitive coaching program developed by Emmy Award-Winning
FableVision Studios and the Institute for Learning and Development.

grades 4-8, technolgy specialists and contacts, testing and assessment
coordinators, library/media specialists, administrators, pre-service
teachers, parents, and other interested learners.

includes an hour for lunch.

- Examine
the lifelong learning process and how it best happens.
- Reflect
on how contemporary theories about learning and development
are (and aren't) applied in contemporary classrooms.
- Establish
and discuss the fact that every child is on a unique journey
and possesses an individual set of strengths, abilities, experiences,
and intelligences.
- Work together
to delineate thirteen primary stategies for remembering, organizing,
prioritizing, shifting, and checking, which are the critical
components of learning.
- Discover
ways that these strategies can be applied instructionally in
the classroom.
- Put these
strategies into action by adapting and individualizing actual
lessons to fit the particular needs of their students.
- Enhance
integration of technology in the classroom.

Strands |
This workshop
will be divided into three strands during the day dealing with
Imagination, Discovery, and Sharing.

Ponder and
discuss the challenges of individualizing instruction so that
the needs of every learner are met.
|
|
Discover proven
strategies for remembering, organizing, prioritizing, shifting,
and checking that allow students to learn in a one-size-fits-few
environment.
|
|
Apply these
strategies to upcoming lessons and content so that students are
encouraged to use their strengths, abilities, and intelligences
in every content area.

for Professional Development |
Certificates
of completion will be handed out at the end of the session. Those
requiring additional hours can make indivdual arrangments with the
