The North Star Children's Ramble is a one-of-a-kind literacy-themed sporting event for kids ages 4-12 and their families. There are age-specific races ranging from the 50 yard dash to 500 yard dash, and The Dedham Family Fun Run.

If you have kids that would like a longer course challenge, The Dedham Family Fun Run is for them and their family members. Kids can run the entire course solo, with family members, or do a family relay where the course is divided between family members. Special consideration will be given to families with creative unifying uniforms. New Balance has kindly come on board as our official sponsor and has provided wonderful reward items, and raffles for New Balance kid and adult shoes will also be part of the fun! The race will be initiated with the National Anthem by local musician Steve Marchena on his most wonderful electric guitar. A special local athlete may also be the official American flag bearer.

The North Star Childrens Ramble event also includes coloring activities for runners and non-runner audience participants. Like its "parent race," James Joyce Ramble, the North Star Ramble creatively mixes sports and the arts together by tying into Dedham author Peter H. Reynolds’ book, The North Star.

"We encourage children of ALL ages to navigate with active minds and hearts to realize their full potential," said Peter as he strolled the beautiful expanse of the Endicott Estate where the races will be held.

Sponsored by the Dedham Youth Commission as part of the Annual 10K James Joyce Ramble.

The North Star Children's Ramble offers prizes, free samples, and contests, including certificates and ribbons for all who run. Sponsoring organizations include Dedham Youth Commission, Candlewick Press, Charlesbridge Publishing, FableVision Inc, Abrams, Harper Collins, Showcase Cinema, Kings, Shake Shack, Hanna Andersson, Stellabella Toys, Marathon Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine, and The Blue Bunny Bookstore. Pre-race activities include face painting by Pondview Montessori School and poster-making station with Catching Joy, a game with prizes sponsored by The John Thomas and Special Friends Fund, chalk art activities by Dedham Sidewalk Chalk Arts Festival, and a warm-up with Dedham Health and Athletic Complex. Additional Goodie bag sponsors include Whole Foods, City Sports, and Dedham Police.
