What:

The North Star Children's Ramble is a one-of-a-kind literacy-themed sporting event for kids ages 4-12. small photo of peter reynolds with 4 kids who participated in the 2002 rambleThere are four age-specific races ranging from the 50 yard dash to 500 yard dash. The event also includes a coloring contest for runners and non-runner audience participants. Like its "parent race," James Joyce Ramble, the North Star Ramble creatively mixes sports and the arts together by tying into Dedham author Peter H. Reynolds' book, The North Star.

"We encourage children of ALL ages to navigate with active minds and hearts to realize their full potential," said Peter as he recently strolled the beautiful expanse of the Endicott Estate where the races will be held.

Sponsored by the Dedham Youth Commission as part of the 25nd Annual 10K James Joyce Ramble.

The North Star Children’s Ramble offers prizes, raffles, and contests, including certificates for all of those who run. Children’s book publishers Candlewick Press, Charlesbridge Publishing and Simon and Schuster have donated hundreds of books as part of the prize offerings for each child who runs in the race. Other sponsoring organizations include New England Mobile Book Fair, Dedham Youth Commission, Dedham Savings Bank, The Dedham Community Association, FableVision and The Blue Bunny Bookstore.

All proceeds from The James Joyce Ramble Benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
