The North Star Children's Ramble Announces New Contests for Kids

Local Children's Author Peter Reynolds Sponsors Kite and Coloring Contests for Kids as Part of the 17th Annual James Joyce Ramble on Sunday, April 30th

Dedham, MA--
As the status and profile of the 17th Annual James Joyce Ramble continues to grow, so too does the special children's race that was established last year as an adjunct to the adult race. As Grand Marshall of the Ramble's children's race, local author/illustrator/educator Peter H. Reynolds has announced even more activities to expand The North Star Children's Ramble. Both a Coloring and a Kite Contest have been added this year which extend the theme of Reynolds' book The North Star, which was named to NEA's Top 100 Children's Book List (National Education Association, www.nea.org/readacross). The North Star Children's Ramble will take place on Sunday, April 30th in Dedham, MA at 9:30 am for children up to age twelve. Registration and all events are free.

Reynolds remarked, "We added non-racing activities for those kids whose own personal 'North Star' may not be athletic in nature," adding, "My book The North Star is all about navigating the true potential of every learnerillustration of a kite - and since there are many types of learners, we felt there should be multiple ways for children to express themselves in the Ramble." In the case of the new Kite Contest, children are encouraged to use their creativity in making a homemade kite for the children's event and will be judged a winner as long as they can fly their kite for even a brief time. A Kite Building Guide for children and their parents is available at www.fablevision.com/northstar/ramble. General information can also be found in local libraries.

Children in the Dedham Schools will receive an official "North Star" coloring sheet which can be brought to the event at Memorial Field on Sunday April, 30th. small coloring page of a boy chasing a rabbitChildren in other towns may print a copy off of the website (www.fablevision.com/northstar/ramble) or receive a Contest sheet at the event.
