Judy pictureWith Judy Moody, McDonald continues in her portrayal of young children and the problems they face. Her realistic story lines are mirror images of her own childhood. Being the youngest of five girls, McDonald says she always "wanted to know what it was like to be in charge." Her character Judy, the eldest sibling in the chapter book, allows her the chance to live out that wish.

Author/illustrator Peter H. Reynolds, founder of FableVision Studios and creator award-winning books and animated films such as The North Star and The Blue Shoe, has brought the bright-eyed Judy to life with his unique signature touch. As the School Library Journal recently noted, "Reynolds has captured her personality in his humorous illustrations done in watercolor, tea, and pen and ink." The connection with Megan's work made the project especially meaningful, as Reynolds shares, "the book expresses in a playful way the reality of what kids are all about - in their good moods, bad moods, confused mood - and, most importantly, celebrates the unique talents that each child possesses."

In the Judy Moody book, Judy's teacher assigns a very special class project - to create a "Me" collage - an artistic expression of just what makes Judy "Judy". sample collageIn the same creative spirit, Candlewick Press and FableVision decided to create the All-About-Me collage contest for students. To enter a child's work in the "All About Me" Contest, collages or photos of the collage must be sent with the child's name, class and teacher, school address, and /or e-mail, and a contact number on each entry to the following address: "All About Me" Contest", Candlewick Press, 2067 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02140.
