Researchers Collaborate with FableVision to Launch BrainCogs™ "Cognitive Coaching" CD-ROM for Student Test-Taking Success"

BOSTON, MA
Educational researchers at the Research Institute for Learning & Development and FableVision, an award-winning educational media and technology developer, announced the release of the new "BrainCogs™" educational CD-ROM. Based on Research ILD's decade-plus research on strategic learning and instruction, the musical and animated CD is designed to be an interactive "coach" for learning & studying. Created and published by FableVision, the CD has been hailed by National Education Association President Bob Chase as a tool that, "coaches all students to learn, study, and ultimately to navigate their true potential. It is a powerful tool to help realize our goal of leaving no child behind."

The PC/Mac CD-ROM, containing ten hours of animation and activities, helps students develop a personalized plan to enhance the five cognitive processes (a.k.a. "BrainCogs™") involved in test-taking. A "cognitively challenged" band of musicians serve as tour guides throughout the program developing a story-based context for the learning as well as a parallel track of curriculum-based material.

Director of Assessment & Research at Lexington-based Research Institute of Learning & Development Dr. Lynn Meltzer shares, "We're determined to help challenged learners who face debilitating stress and failure in the face of constant testing - FableVision took our research to a new level and helped us share it with millions of students we can't personally reach." Dr. Meltzer is also a member of Harvard University's Graduate School of Education and Tufts University's Department of Child Study.

Funding for the "BrainCogs™" CD-ROM came from a U.S. Department of Education STAR schools grant and has already been distributed to thousands of STAR schools across the nation.
