| FableVision Lands Multiple Honors from American Library Association and Parents' Choice Awards for Software and Animated Film Boston-Based Firm's Winning Formula Spans Cross-Media Landscape
Essay Express: Strategies for Successful Essay Writing, published by FableVision in collaboration with the Research Institute for Learning & Development, was one of only five software/online offerings selected for this prestigious award. The Notables recognize best-in-class computer programs and online subscription services for children fourteen years of age and younger. Other recipients of the ALSC honors include Grolier Online, Encyclopedia Britannica, Mystic Seaport Museum and UK’s SEMERC. The ALSC, a division of The American Library Association, also recognized Ish, the film adaptation of Fablevision founder Peter H. Reynolds' book about the young artist, Ramon, first discouraged in his artistic efforts by his brother's laughter, and then inspired to create new and wonderful drawings by the way his younger sister sees his work. Ish has also just been named an official selection in the 2006 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. As ALSC describes the Essay Express software package in its recent announcement, “Join the Rotten Green Peppers rock band on their tour of expository writing, highlighting the importance of brainstorming, organizing information, and using supporting details in order to write short essays. With humor, music, and engaging graphics, these strategy based exercises present a manageable process to build students' abilities and increase confidence in essay writing. Features printable worksheets. Ages nine and up.” Essay Express, based on the research of Dr. Lynn Meltzer and Dr. Bethany Roditi of The Research Institute for Learning (www.researchild.org), is the companion product to the award-winning meta-cognition software BrainCogs®, which helps all learners and especially learning-challenged students develop life- long testing success strategies. In a separate honor, BrainCogs has earned the prestigious Parents' Choice 2006 'Recommended' seal for childrens' software. Celebrating ten years of using media, storytelling and technology to "tell stories that matter", FableVision (www.fablevision.com) was founded by twin brothers Peter and Paul Reynolds. Peter H. Reynolds' success as a children's book author/illustrator (NY Times Best- Selling Judy Moody, The Dot, Ish) has also helped position FableVision as an award-winning content provider across multiple platforms to global consumer and classroom markets. With its recent launch of offices in UK and Portland, Oregon, FableVision's educational publishing group is growing out its K12 software product offerings (Stationery Studio® BrainCogs®, Essay Express®), including its Get A Clue® subscription-based online “critical thinking and vocabulary building through stories” software, which the firm acquired in 2005.
