Ciao
from Peter H. Reynolds!
I am writing this from Bologna, Italy
where I am attending the Bologna
Children's Book Fair.
I am surrounded by old friends
and new - kindred sprits who share
same
passion for the power of storytelling.
Thanks to this network of international
publishers, my books are now in over
twenty languages around the world.
We'll be sharing several new book
projects this week, including the
sequel to SOMEDAY called LITTLE BOY
(Simon & Schuster) and my collaboration
with Jess Brallier called TESS'S TREE
(Harper Collins.)
Meanwhile back at FableVision we continue
to write new chapters of our own story
- a story that includes YOU.
You are helping us write a more creative,
more generous version of what "educaton"
is all about. Keep your
stories coming of how you're using
our books, stories and software -
it is fuel for us everyday when we
hear about the successes spreading
around the world.
Enjoy this issue of the FableFlash
- and please let me know how we can
help you in any way.
Yours from Italy,

Peter H. Reynolds

Hughes spoke with Peter about
his mission to inspire children and
adults to believe in their dreams
and be brave about expressing themselves
in creative ways. This is a key message
in his award-winning book The

FableVision
Unveils Two New Products at 2008 ASCD
Conference!
FableVision
has returned happy and stuffed with
etouffe from New
Orleans where we unveiled two
exciting new products, SmartMoves
and Animation-ish!
We were clearly one of the creative
hotspots at the
63rd annual ASCD
Conference, which is a professional
development event for educators, school
administrators, and civic leaders
from around the world.
The
FableVision
booth was packed with visitors
hungry for more creative ways to
reach their students. Booth
visitors practiced "body
puzzles for the mind" from
the SmartMoves
DVD, and made their doodles
come to life with Peter
H. Reynolds' Animation-ish.
Animation-ish
is an easy-to-use animation software
package for kids "3 to 103" and
hosted by Peter who is featured
in nearly fifty coaching video clips.
FableVision's constructivist and
creative approach to connect the
left and right sides of the brain
is creating a stir around the nation
and the world. Maybe the pendulum
is
swinging back in the right direction
finally!
As always, we're delighted when
FableVision
Ambassadors are available
to lend a hand at a conference.
A big thank you to a dedicated educator
Norma
Dodson who was on hand presenting
FableVision's K-5 writing program
Stationery
Studio designed by Dr.
Peggy Healy Stearns. Thank
you Norma for showing how transformational
Stationery
Studio can be for young writers!

FableVision
& Homeschool
Buyers Cooperative
Join Hands to Serve One Million Homeschool
Families
Did
you know that over 1 million families
in the US are choosing to home school
their children? In support of this
growing trend, FableVision
is pleased to announce our partnership
with the Homeschool
Buyers Cooperative, the nation's
largest purchasing cooperative for
homeschooling families. It serves
over 23,000 families and the list
continues to grow.
Earlier in March, Homeschool
Buyers Cooperative introduced
FableVision's highly popular online
vocabulary program Get
A Clue
(designed for middle and high school
students) to its extended universe
of homeschoolers.
HSBC maintains a fully searchable
database of free curriculum and other
educational resources, along with
the largest database of educational
contests & scholarships available
to homeschooled students. If
you currently school your children
at home, or are exploring the option,
we encourage you to visit the Homeschool
Buyers Co-op: http://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org.

Featured in March Issue of Children's
Technology Review™
|
|
Children's
Technology Review™,
the leading professional source
of unbiased reviews of interactive
technology products that are becoming
part of every child's life, gave
FableVision's new SmartMoves
"cognitive fitness" product a great
spotlight in the March issue:
SmartMoves™:
Body Puzzles for the Mind.
Can
you rub your belly and tap your head?
You'll be able to after you play with
this innovative DVD, which consists
of video segments of "follow along"
footage.
Created
in collaboration with Thinking
Moves, this DVD leads students
through a series of increasingly complicated
body movements designed to work as
"calisthenics for the brain". It features
40 puzzles ranging from easy to incredibly
hard. Preschoolers can do the simple
lessons.
We
used the DVD during classroom transitions
in a college technology class, and
it worked nicely. It is a great way
to bring a group of people together
and get them focused. Note that you'll
want to have a large screen projector,
and a good sound system is nice (the
ambient-style music is excellent).

Can
On-line Games in the Classroom Reach
Students We are Leaving Behind?
FableVision's
President Paul
Reynolds and SVP/Director
of Production & Technology Gary
Goldberger will keynote at
the MICCA
Conference in Baltimore,
Maryland on May
1, 2008 and offer two
breakout sessions.
The dynamic duo will present their
talk called Power
Play in the Classroom: Can
On-line Games in the Classroom Reach
Students We are Leaving Behind?
Why
are we still leaving so many students
behind - especially in areas such
as science and math? Could web games
be a key to engaging students before
they tune out and get turned off?
Gary and Paul will share behind
the scenes stories of the educational
game production process, revealing
how fundamental research, inspiration,
creativity and storytelling come
together to reach kids in unconventional
ways. The presentation will feature
the online game teaching middle
school math that FableVision is
developing in partnership with Maryland
Public TV and MIT
Education Arcade. Hear
the FableVision team discuss the
project on
MPT's ThinkPort GotGame?
site.
If
you can make it, come join FableVision
at booth
119, where we'll be teaming
up with Maryland
Public TV. Come try our two
newest products SmartMoves
and Animation-ish
and meet the team.

GET
A CLUEŽ SPOTLIGHT WORD OF THE MONTH - bunkum |
In
1820, a U.S. Representative from Buncombe County,
NC, made a long, rambling, and meaningless speech
in Congress. When asked why, he said that he "did
it for Buncombe," because people in his district
expected Congressmen to give speeches. Thus, the
word "Buncombe" became bunkum,
sometimes shortened to bunk,
and has become part of our language.
