Healing
Through Community, Compassion & Conversation
As the FableVision community continues to expand, we ponder
what it is that seems to be fueling the growth. We are connecting
daily with so many wonderful people dedicated to making a
difference through learning - here in the U.S. and around
the globe.
We recently read something by Dr. Margaret Wheatley
(Leadership and the New Science), which touches
on the dynamic that is helping create this "family". "Why
is being heard so healing? . . . listening creates relationship.
We know from science that nothing in the universe exists
as an isolated or independent entity. Everything takes form
from relationships, be it subatomic particles sharing energy
or ecosystems sharing food. In the web of life, nothing
living lives alone."
She goes on to say, "Though we keep moving away from each
other, we haven't lost the need to be in relationship. Everybody
has a story, and everybody wants to tell their story
in order to connect. If no one listens, we tell it to ourselves
and then we go mad. In the English language, the word for
"health" comes from the same root as the word for "whole".
We can't be healthy if we're not in relationship. And "whole"
is from the same root word as "holy."
Together - with you - we are creating a new story - one
full of blessings. It is a story that is helping change
the way we value and nurture human potential in children
and grown up children. We are listening to you - and will
do whatever it takes to champion your stories - the stories
that matter - the stories that move.
Listening, Peter & Paul Reynolds, CEO and President,

A
FableVision Visit to Renaissance Village in Louisiana
"Stories that Matter, Stories that Move." FableVision's mantra
has led us to seek out life-changing stories all around the
world - and to meet so many wonderful people who inspire us
as they seek to move the world to a better place.
Recently, our mission led us to the Gulf Coast, where,
Peter was asked to keynote the Louisiana Computer Using
Educators Conference. It was their first event since
the natural disasters that unfolded last year. The conference
coordinators were looking for the right message for this
new time of challenges. We were honored that they chose
Peter - who brought his messages of hope, creativity, and
following one's dreams in the face of adversity.
The following remarkable story tells the tale of how,
as part of the FableVision trip down to Louisiana CUE, we
took visited to a FEMA site, Renaissance Village,
for Hurricane Evacuees. Read a first-hand account on some
ways they are handling the education and inspiration for
their kids under duress, and how a FableVision/Peter H.
Reynolds visit brought a spark of hope to the one thousand
families who have no idea how long they must call this camp
their "home."

Award-Winning Film "Ish" - A Story That Matters |

Superintendent
Dr. Patricia Ruane Shares her Ish-ful Personal Reflection
The book Ish by Peter H. Reynolds, and subsequent
animated film version by FableVision & Scholastic/Weston
Woods continues to "make its mark"! The animated film
just received high honors from American Library Association
and is now on the
ACLS 2006 list of Notable Children's Videos. The
list includes videos for children 14 years of age and younger
of especially commendable quality that demonstrate respect
for a child's intelligence and imagination and that reflect
and encourage the interests of children in exemplary ways.
The powerful messages of The Dot and Ish have
been rippling through schools from coast to coast and around
the world. Hopedale Massachusetts Superintendent of Schools,
Dr. Patricia Ruane recently shared one of the ways
which Ish has touched a learning community. Dr Ruane sends
out a monthly newsletter to her staff - The Hopeful Times
in which she writes a column called Personal Reflection.
Because of her story, Peter ended up visiting the school
and sharing his messages of bravery and creativity first
hand.
We wanted to share Dr. Ruane's amazing article with you
as it holds a key to unlocking how your school or organization
can be a successful community of learners, who learn to
live "ish-fully ever after".
