A
FableFlash Message from Peter & Paul |
|
|
|
|
We just came back from a wonderful trip down in Virginia,
where we saw THE NORTH STAR MUSICAL being performed
(see story below) - and we're still floating on air!
It was about ten years ago that FableVision opened
its doors and launched THE NORTH STAR book as our "mission
statement." Wow. You know what they say. Time flies... And
while we were indeed having lots of fun, we also have been
working really hard on the mission. Mission impossible some
might say, but we truly believe that classrooms can become
more wonderful places without test-centric thinking. We want
to thank you for your support, which helps us fund our work
and our outreach to schools – to inspire creative, thinking
journeys. Please drop by when you’re in Boston for a cup of
tea, drop us a line to say "Hi", and until we see you next
on road... we wish you a wonderful and inspirational voyage.
Enjoy our first monthly Anniversary Celebration Gift

Stage Adaptation Premieres in the "Star City"!
Peter and Paul just flew back from Roanoke, VA. - aka "The
Star City" (really!) - where a new musical stage adaptation
of Peter's book THE NORTH STAR is premiering. Based
on the musical performance version by Tim Beckman,
the new production was brought to stage by Director Mary
Best Bova as part of Mill Mountain Theatre's 2006 Norfolk
Southern Festival of New Works. (Tim, Mary & Peter
pictured in photo to left, on stage at Mill Mountain.)
Mary read THE NORTH STAR four years ago after her son
brought the book home from school, where award-winning educator
Wade
Whitehead was busily integrating the book's themes
into his classroom. She saw the transformational effect
on her son - and quickly its potential as an expanded/scripted
musical play.
Mary then collaborated with Tim Beckman, a music teacher
and composer, who had already created THE NORTH STAR
MUSICAL JOURNEY, which includes 11 original songs based
on the book (Also available as an easy "perform-in-YOUR-school"
full
performance kit from FableVision!) The dynamic duo teamed
with Peter and FableVision - adding more characters and
dialogue to turn the book into a full- length, family musical.
Wade led an in-service last Sunday night (with Pat Wilhelms,
MMT Director of Ed), Tim penned five new songs for the production,
and FableVision created over a dozen animated stage backdrops
that were projected as "multimedia scenery." Discussions
are already in process for a national tour of this amazing
new stage production - stay tuned!

Why
Are Teachers So Happy About Stationery Studio? |
|
|
|

Software
Inspires More Students to Write!
The great feedback just keeps rolling in about Stationery
Studio. Teachers are telling us how their students are becoming
prolific writers when using the software product STATIONERY
STUDIO! (The fact that it was designed by a passionate
educator - Dr.
Peggy Healy Stearns - and chock full of inspiring
art by Peter
H. Reynolds, probably doesn't hurt!)
Dea Cox, Technology Facilitator of the Macon
County Elementary School in North Carolina, recently
shared her school's newsletter with the FableVision Team.
Check out how the students in this school have been inspired
by STATIONERY STUDIO to become non- stop writers!
Read
the Newsletter..
Thank you Dea for sharing your feedback with us. The smiles
on the children's faces are fuel for our mission! (If YOU
have a story, please let us know and we'll share with the
rest of the extended FableVision community.)

THE
DOT Animated Film "Makes Its Mark!"
The Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC),
a division of the American Library Association (ALA),
recently acknowledged FableVision as a co-recipient
of the 2005 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Children's
Video for THE DOT. The animated film is based on
the book THE DOT by Peter H. Reynolds.
FableVision now happily shares the Carnegie honors with
co-producer Scholastic Weston Woods. Medals will
be given to all individuals involved in the project, including
Peter H. Reynolds, Karen Bresnahan, Gary Goldberger,
and Jonathan Meath , along with Paul Gagne
and Melissa Reilly of Weston Woods.
Many thanks to ALSC and ALA for taking such good care
of us. We appreciate it. And, of course thanks also go to
our wonderful partners at Weston Woods, with whom we just
completed the new animated version of Peter's book sequel
to THE DOT, called ISH!

Monthly
Downloadable Treats for all to Share
In 1996, Peter H. Reynolds said a fond adieu to his
colleagues at Tom Snyder Productions where he was Vice
President and Creative Director, and followed his North Star...
to use media, storytelling and technology to help ALL learners
navigate their true potential. To that end, Peter launched
FableVision with a handful of passionate people, a
whole lot of energy, and a 200 year mission to inspire meaningful
learning journeys in kids and grown up kids. Within a year,
the Studio was in full swing - serving up the award-winning
FableVision website, THE NORTH STAR book, our first animated
film THE BLUE SHOE, as well as the beginning of many other
"stories that matter, stories that move."
Ever since, we've been creating cutting-edge original
content ... museum kiosks, animation, original character
design, websites, CD-ROMs, educational software applications
and lots of streaming content delivery. We've been fortunate
to work with great partners, such as Pearson Education,
Boston University, PBS, Scott Foresman, Carnegie Hall, Scholastic,
and more. In the last year, we've also opened offices in
the UK and U.S. west coast. It was also the year of our
first product acquisition, the online vocabulary program
GET A CLUE® which teaches vocabulary through stories.
GET A CLUE joins our family of products which has grown
to include award winning, STATIONERY STUDIO, BRAINCOGS,
and ESSAY EXPRESS software products, in addition
to our DVDs, books and classroom kits which continue to
provide inspiration in the classroom.
We want to thank all our great friends who have supported
our mission. So, as part of FableVision's ten year celebration
- along with a BIG party later this year, we'll be posting
a Treat-of- the-Month every month for the whole year!
We hope you check back each month - and enjoy!
