Meet Peter H. Reynolds

Peter's journey has been dedicated to helping kids, especially the "off the path" kids. "I was one of them myself. Not every student is lucky enough to have a teacher, or adult, see his or her potential. "

"When I visit students in schools they ask me what my hobbies are. I say ' thinking, dreaming, and sharing.' If my art and stories can help inspire others to do the same, I'll feel my life had meaning."

While he is delighted by drawing and storytelling, he is more fascinated by the "big idea." Making sense of the journey is a constant theme. "What more powerful mystery to solve than how to make the most of this one, precious life we are blessed with?" Peter asks. He explores the theme in inky, playful lines and in dreamy words.

For the last two decades Peter has also made his mark in media and technology-delivered learning for children. Peter, along with his identical twin brother Paul Reynolds, founded the award-winning children's media company FableVision in 1996. FableVision's mission is to use media, storytelling and technology to create "Stories that matter, stories that move". Partnering with museums, publishers and broadcasters, including PBS, Carnegie Hall, Houghton-Mifflin, Research Institute for Learning & Development, Baltimore Children’s Museum, and NOGGIN, FableVision has developed the art of capturing the imagination of children. Collaborating with top educators, this gift to reach, support and inspire ALL learners has led to award-winning products for the classroom, Stationery Studio and BrainCogs, as well as plethora of resource tools for educators, such as the North Star Inspiration Kit and the North Star Musical.

Peter H. Reynolds’ award-winning career includes his most recent book Ish, released in September 2004 by Candlewick Press. Ish is the sequel to Peter's book The Dot (2003), which has won a number of prestigious awards, such as the Oppenheim Platinum Toy Award, Borders Books’ Original Voices 2004 Award, and the Christopher Medal. Reynolds other work includes his cornerstone work The North Star, the best-selling Judy Moody series written by Megan McDonald, Eleanor Estes’ The Alley and The Tunnel of Hugsy Goode, Judy Blume’s Fudge series, and Ellen Potter’s Olivia Kidney.

Peter continues to travel throughout the country and world to help create wonderful classrooms using his "North Star Approach", and to inspire educators, parents, business leaders and children to make their mark. As one teacher shares, "I heard you at our NETA conference in Omaha, Nebraska and you were inspirational! I will be a better teacher because of you."
